 Origin: Dreadlocks are a type of hairstyle from Africa who had the original Rastafarian and represented a lion manes. The Rastafarian culture emerged in the 1930s in Jamaica. The social and spiritual movement was created between marginal social classes, many of them descendants of black slaves who wanted to return to Africa of their ancestors. In their beliefs, it was said that Haile Selassie, or Ras (an incarnation of Yahweh according to them) would take them to the promised land, which they called Mount Zion.

During that time, the Rastafarians were black slum population with marked religious trends. However, what has survived to this day is mostly anti-materialist philosophy and way of seeing things.
